Welcome Folks!

If you know me, you know I mean that! Welcome! Welcome to our website and I hope you get the information you’re here for. My name is Karl Breckon and I am the CEO and founder of a line of BEC Engineering Companies since 2002.

BEC Engineers and Consultants began operations at our new location of 3200 Wilcrest in the Westchase Business District in Houston, Texason on June 1, 2017. I am blessed to have been given the opportunity to serve clients and solve problems in a cost-effective manner. This would not have been possible without a great team. In particular, I would like to acknowledge my two previous partners, Hank De Shazer, with BEC Engineering (2002-2011); and Larry Hoffman with BEC-LIN Engineering (2011-2017). I thank them for their partnership, friendship and their contribution to the successful operations of the BEC companies over the past fifteen years.

After attending Iowa State University to obtain my Bachelors of Science in Construction Engineering in 1980, I started my career with Fluor Engineers and became a registered professional engineer in the State of Texas under the branches of industrial, civil, and structural engineering. I was fortunate to travel the world a few times over working on large-scale refinery, power plants, bridge and civil projects. Prior to opening BEC Engineers in 2002, I was employed with Enron Construction Corporation and remained employed after the highly publicized layoffs of November 2001 to close out projects to a completion phase. My years at Enron were ones I will never forget under the leadership of Larry Izzo, Sr., then president of the construction side of Enron. Larry, a West Point grad, decorated veteran, MIT grad, and MBA was a fine mentor not afforded to many. As the project manager building power plants in the Philippines, China, and Puerto Rico under Larry’s leadership, I felt equipped and inspired to leave the large corporate arena and enter the entrepreneurial venture of the BEC engineering companies. The rest, as they say, is history!

During the past fifteen years at the BEC companies, we have been part of thousands of projects from patio additions to commercial buildings on both structural engineering, civil engineering, and forensic engineering. The second best part of this business is designing and seeing that the final product is structurally sound and ascetically pleasing. The best part is meeting our clients and fulfilling their needs. I hope to welcome you in-person soon and introduce you to our team. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Best Regards,

Karl Breckon, CEO – BEC Engineers and Consultants, LLC

G’day,

I am a Professional Civil/Structural Engineer with several years of design and construction experience in various disciplines and countries. I started my Engineering career down under in Christchurch, New Zealand building swimming pools, light framed timber buildings, and reinforced concrete hospital buildings while obtaining my undergraduate degree at the University of Canterbury. I moved to the United States in 2008 to pursue a Masters of Science degree in Civil Engineering  at  Texas  A&M  University, College Station. As part of my research program, our team constructed large scale bridge pier supports and tested them to failure to help understand the effects of Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR), a very prevalent problem with reinforced concrete bridges here in Texas. Since graduating, I have worked  in the outback’s of Western Australia as a Civil Superintendent for an iron-ore stockyard expansion project; and San Antonio, Texas, as a blast consultant doing design, testing, and research for the protective building group.

My previous three years have been spent in Houston working in the residential and commercial engineering world where I have truly developed a passion for helping homeowners, architects, and builders design their dreams. My experience in construction as allowed me to be more effective as an Engineer in knowing what is important to the construction crew responsible for getting your job built. As a key team member of BEC, I am passionate about Civil and Structural Engineering and ensuring that you have a solid set of construction documents delivered to you that are constructible, cost effective, and designed to stand the test of time.

Cheers,

Reece Scott, President
